Today I have some street bike news for you. First up, Triumph has teased the new Speed Triple 1200. Now there has been speculation for a little while about a new Speed Triple from Triumph. The last update the Speed Triple received was back in 2016. While the current model is a very good bike, ever since the launch of the Aprilia Tuono V4 in 2011 and the BMW S1000R not long after, it’s been very much outpaced.
Now early speculation was that the bike was going to be an 1160cc triple. Triumph has given very little away, but from the 1200 moniker, it’s safe to assume that the engine will be a more potent version of their current 1215cc engine. That engine is currently used in the Tiger 1200 range and produces 139hp and 122nm of torque. Those are some impressive numbers for a touring/adventure style engine. I don’t think the Triumph engineers will have much trouble at all getting some more ponies out of that engine. The current Speed triple puts out 148hp and 117nm of torque, so expect bigger numbers than that. Besides that, Triumph isn’t giving anything away bar a fruity engine note.
Aprilia Tuono 660 Release Date Announced
Next up, Aprilia has given a launch date for their much anticipated and dead sexy Tuono 660. It was only last week I covered the reveal of the Tuono 660, now Aprilia has released a video that says the bike is due to launch in February 2021, no exact date is given. Now I’m not sure if this is going to be a paper launch or if you’ll actually be able to order then. In any case, the first orders of the RS660 are arriving in the US at the end of this month with more to follow in February. I wouldn’t expect anyone to get one till at least March unless you are in Europe. In the meantime, we’ll just have to wait and look at those sexy pics.
KTM Duke 125 & 390 Models Updated for Euro 5
KTM has announced that they have given the Duke 125 and 390 2021 models a Euro 5 refresh. The engines have been slightly revised to make them compliant. The 125 is putting out just under 15hp and the 390 43hp. Besides that the only changes are to the colour schemes and the 390 now has an optional up & down quick shifter.
Bajaj Auto Worth a Mint
While we are still talking about KTM, Indian manufacturer Bajaj Auto is now the most valuable motorcycle manufacturer in the world. Yep that’s right, more than Honda, Yamaha and Ducati. This came as a big surprise to me, but Bajaj has been coming along in leaps in bounds recently. Not only are they selling a butt load of bikes in India and Asia, they own 47.97% of KTM and are also developing and manufacturing new bikes for Triumph. So how much are they worth, estimates put them at a cool $13.6 billion. Can I have some?
